The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2019 from Podere Il Macchione is a masterpiece of the “as long as it takes” philosophy. In a vintage widely hailed as one of the best of the last decade in Tuscany.

Grown in the Caggiole area—widely considered the “Grand Cru” of Montepulciano due to its silt-clay soils rich in marine fossils—this Riserva undergoes an extensive aging process. It spends approximately 40 months in French oak tonneaux (second and third passage). This slow maturation allows the wine to develop a complexity that is rare to find, making it a “must-have” for collectors and lovers of world-class Sangiovese.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with subtle garnet highlights, reflecting its long aging and structural density.

Bouquet: An explosive and “communicative” nose. It opens with layers of ripe black cherry, plum, and wild forest berries, evolving into balsamic notes of menthol and sweet spices like cinnamon. The finish reveals sophisticated hints of dark chocolate, licorice, and black pepper.
