Umbria is the home of the autochthonous red berried Sagrantino, as well as Sangiovese, Colorino and other indigenous Italian varieties. The producers also cultivate a smattering of international grapes, namely Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The region’s leading reds, Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso Riserva, boast layers of complexity and structures worthy of aging, while Montefalco Rosso and Rosso di Torgiano are generally more approachable.
