The effect of two years in barrels of Pedro Ximenez’s first fill on this delicate malt of Speyside does not necessarily make it a vinous whisky, but it definitely helped enhance its thickness, body and character creamy. The nose is mainly clean and fruity dominated by ripe cherries: both of the black type, sweeter, than the red ones, which are more sour. There is also candied orange, and a pleasantly buttery note of fresh pastries. The palate is soft but quite robust, again slightly buttery, rich in raisins and honey, with a delicate note of dark sugar. Despite being a rich profile, leaning slightly towards a fat approach, it is very well balanced by the acidic notes of cherries with maraschino. The fullness of the body results in a finish that continues to grow in intensity, with a tannic presence that begins to be felt without becoming dominant.
