Tignanello a wine story from Tuscany,

Tignanello is one of the most sought after SuperTuscans made by the historic vineyards of ‘Marchese di Antinori’ (wine producers since 1385) and takes its name from the vineyard where it is produced ‘Tenuta di Tignanello’.

The History

The first year of production was in 1971, was supervised by Piero Antinori a revolutionary Tuscan wine maker.  Tignanello was considered an innovative wine for this period, being one of the first wines of the area to leave the traditional historical disciplinary of the Chianti Classico DOCG. Tignanello set 3 great milestones for the Tuscan vintners, firstly it was the first to see the importance of aging sangiovese wine in barriques, secondly it was the first modern red wine blended with non-traditional varieties (such as Cabernet), and thirdly one of the first in the chianti area not to use a white variety in their blend. Tignanello is produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc all cultivated in the Tenuta del Tignanello.

Tignanello is a pioneer in the production of the infamous SuperTuscans. Tignanello was first commercialised in 1974 and had become an iconic Italian wine, winning numerous international awards and recognition’s making it one of the most important wines produced by this historic vineyard.
